Exotic Gear

The Ram

Forgemaster's Review

"....PRAISE ME..."

The Ram was well known in Year-1 because the amount of of armor it added. While the amount of armor granted was nerfed, this is still a very good choice as an exotic. More so in PvP because it allows you to be more of tank. There is a lot of stuff you can survive with The Ram that you couldn't otherwise.

Here is a full list: http://planetdestiny.com/ram-exotic-year-2/

Personally I think this exotic is better for PvP but extra armor can be good in PvE as well.

 PvP:

  • Re-roll stats to go with your build

  • Increased armor across all sub-classes for Warlocks

  • Grants life steal for EVERY Voidwalker melee (smack things and get health). You don’t even need a melee charge

  • Increased armor can make you more of a tank and is good for more aggressive playstyles

PvE:

  • Life steal on melee hits can be very nice to not die in strikes or any other PvE activity

  • Increased armor can be nice to withstand more enemy fire

Overall I believe this exotic is more useful in PvP but it isn’t the worst option for PvE either. The amount of benefits for PvP can make you a very powerful force in the crucible and is worth trying. With the right build you can be a tank and your survive-ability will increase, which is good.

The Chaperone

Forgemaster's Review

"My mother had a shotgun we called The Chaperone. Kept us alive out there, before we got to the City."

~ Amanda Holliday

This week we look at an exotic shotgun many people seem to put off or simply have not completed the quest to receive it. The Chaperone, currently one of only 3 weapons we have from the Tex Mechanica weapon foundry. The Chaperone is acquired through an exotic quest that isn't too hard, but requires you prove yourself with The Last Word.

The Chaperone in the right hands can be a deadly weapon. It is also very unique from every other shotgun in Destiny due to the fact that it shoots slugs instead of a spread. This being said The Chaperone takes a bit more skill and effort to use effectively.

 PvP:

  • One shot kill to the head at range, not a one shot kill to the body

  • Faster fire rate allows for easy follow up shots

  • Exotic perk allows for more range

  • Overall fun to use in the crucible.

PvE:

  • Maybe not the most effective exotic shotgun but not the worst choice

  • Faster fire rate can allow for a lot of damage

  • Solar damage can be useful for strikes with solar burn or solar shielded enemies

  • Probably better off using this in PvP; there are many other exotics better suited for PvE

Oh did I mention the dope whip sound effect? That's pretty cool too. Whappishhh!

The Chaperone, with enough practice can be a lot of fun and can hold its own against others shotguns. Just remember that it's not a one shot kill to the body so aim for the head.

Legendary Gear

Imago Loop

Forgemaster's Review

"....once-mighty wings, now dewy and fragile and new, as again the silken threads encased its..."

The Imago Loop is a pretty decent handcannon when it comes to the legendary options; In the same archetype as Eyasluna and Finnala's Peril. The base stats are nothing special but not too bad either. If you want a good handcannon this is one of the better options. It drops from the Echo Chamber and Undying Mind strikes, the latter being this weeks Nightfall.

First I'm going to go over what to look for, then I'll go into the pros of using it in PvP and PvE.

Recommended Perks:

Column 1 – SureShot IS/TrueSight IS

Column 2 – Rangefinder, Outlaw, Hot Swap, and Underdog

Column 3 – Rifled Barrel, Smallbore, Reinforced Barrel, Hammer Forged

Column 4 – Hidden Hand/Icarus, Luck in the Chamber, Third Eye, Reactive Reload, Life Support, Grenadier, Army of One

A combination of any of these perks could prove to be a very powerful gun."

 PvP:

  • Quick time to kill (1 crit 2 body shots)

  • This archetype is in a very good place right now and are good weapons to use

  • Perks can really make this weapon shine or can make it not good

PvE:

  • Higher magazine size can be nice for damage

  • Hand cannons in general aren't very good in PvE and fall short compared to scouts and pulses

Overall Imago Loop is pretty good; it isn't the best but I think it's worth grinding a bit for it and hope for a good roll.

Nirwen's Mercy

Forgemaster Review

A pulse rifle that demands respect, Nirwen's Mercy was once one of the most sought after guns in PvP. While the gun itself sits in the top 5 pulse rifles for PvE content, the Mercy has fallen from the apex from where it started. Still a very formidable weapon in the right hands with the right perks, it should not be taken lightly in PvP.

 PvP:

  • Performance relies heavily on perk rolls. Paired with stability boosters such as Counterbalance or Perfect Balance, this gun can become a laser.

  • Along with a stability booster, Third Eye and Rangefinder can take this gun to a whole new level.

  • Avoid perk rolls that include Secret Round and/or Skip Rounds

PvE:

  • Easily one of the most stable pulse rifles you can use in PvE regardless of perks.

  • Due to being a low RoF pulse, the Mercy hits harder than the stats show, making quick work of most large enemies.

Nirwen's Mercy was once a beast, but has since been tamed. Though it isn't a top pick in every loadout anymore it can still get the job done.
